Welcome to skillsbento! This guide will help you get started with installing and using free, open source skills for Claude.
What are Skills?
Skills are custom instructions that enhance Claude's capabilities for specific tasks. They can help with:
- Design tasks - Apply specific design aesthetics to your projects
- Document analysis - Review and analyze documents for specific purposes
- Data analysis - Process and analyze various types of data
How to Get a Skill from GitHub
All skills are free and hosted on GitHub at github.com/donvito/skillsbento.
- Go to the GitHub repository and click Code → Download ZIP
- Unzip the file
- Open the
skills/folder and find the skill you want - Copy the entire skill folder — each skill includes a
SKILL.mdalong with supporting files such asreferences/,assets/, andscripts/ - Zip the skill folder
How to Install a Skill
- Navigate to Settings > Capabilities
- In the Skills section, click the "Add" button
- Upload the ZIP file
- Your skill will appear in your Skills list and can be toggled on or off

Using Your Skills
Once installed, skills are automatically activated when relevant. Simply:
- Start a new conversation with Claude
- Describe your task or upload relevant files
- Claude will automatically apply the appropriate skill
Tips for Best Results
- Be specific - Provide clear instructions about what you want
- Provide context - Share relevant background information
- Iterate - Refine your requests based on initial results
- Experiment - Try different approaches to find what works best
